Is that really sustainable?

In the meantime, the term „sustainability“ is appearing in all areas of life. If you walk down the streets of Berlin, you’ll see cafés with bamboo cutlery, fast-food restaurants selling burgers with organic meat or even tofu, everyone is wearing jute bags, and in the evening at the bar the cocktail is only served with glass straws, food is preferably bought without plastic packaging, and people are critically questioning their own consumption.

With this abundance of alternatives, even some sustainability professionals are overwhelmed – so how can people who have had little to do with sustainability find their way into the „eco-world“? What needs to be taken into account at all? What is bad for nature and what can we change to live more sustainably?

We have grappled with these questions and tried to divide individual areas of our lives into categories in order to break them down into their smallest components. With a lot of verve, commitment and fun, we critically researched, intensively discussed and jointly designed in the project workshop „Sustainable Handprints“ at the TU-Berlin.
Thus, in the summer semester of 2021, four project groups self-organized and critically addressed the topics of „clothing“, „recycling“, „digital life“ and a „handprint assessment method“.

In a dynamic process and mindful togetherness, we worked out diverse results together in the summer semester of 2021. The results are playful tests, exciting process reports, an evaluation tool concept and inspiring ideas for further handprint projects.
In the winter semester 2021/22, two groups developed board games that dealt with the playful implementation of education for sustainable development.
