Anything organic — that is, anything that has once been alive — will decompose and become compost. But just because you can, doesn't mean you should!

Plant material that is obviously diseased or carrying pests, as well as perennial weeds like grass runners and bulbs are the main items to avoid. They will survive the hottest compost and come back to haunt your garden beds. Another no-no is dog and cat droppings. While manure from cows, sheep and chickens are OK in the garden, pet poo is more likely to contain parasites that composting won't kill and that can be passed to humans.

Only 3% of the world's water is fresh. Of this 3% of fresh water, less than one third of 1% of this water is available for human use. The remainder is frozen in polar ice caps, glaciers or is unreachable deep down in the earth. Another way of looking at it is if 100 litres of water were in front of you representing the world's water, only half of a tablespoon is available to you as fresh water.

Animals sometimes venture into homes and gardens, looking for nesting sites or grounds to lay eggs. There are many ways in which we can help these animals, by looking out for them, helping them get to their destination and protecting their eggs or hatchlings.

Correct! Although all of the activities on the list cause greenhouse gas emissions,  electricity generation is the biggest listed cause.
