It's true that it's false! not necessarily!!! Food being organic is just one part of a broader sustainability picture, public health and nutrition expert Dr. Sandro Demaio says. "Organic is a certification that means they aren't using synthetic chemicals and a bunch of other things in the process of producing the food." How much water and energy is being used to grow, transport and store that food plays a role in how good it is for the environment, too. "Even if it's organic, sitting in a refrigerator for six months will use a lot of energy to do that."

Energy efficient appliances are the most effective way to save water in the kitchen and laundry. Some regular washing machines use 150 litres per wash and dishwashers can use 50 litres per wash. Energy efficient front loader washing machines use 50% less water than a regular machine.

Only using your washing machine and dishwasher when full will also save water and energy costs as well. Putting the plug in the sink while you wash dishes or vegetables will save 16 litres of water going down the drain every minute.

The United Nations observes March 21 as the International Day of Forests, commemorating the green cover around the world and reiterating its importance. The theme of the International Day of Forests for 2021 is “Forest restoration: a path to recovery and well-being”.

As you know from the carbon cycle, some processes, like photosynthesis, use up carbon dioxide quickly, while others, like carbon dioxide captured by weathering of rocks, operate over many thousands of years. Thus, you can't put your finger on the exact life span of a given molecule of CO2 in the atmosphere.

The bottom line is that once emitted, CO2 continues to affect the climate for decades to millennia. That's why reducing emissions quickly is important. Because of the existing CO2 in the atmosphere, the Earth will continue to warm even after we stop burning fossil fuels.

The complexity of CO2 residence time is summed by Zeke Hausfather in Yale Climate Connections:

"Using a combination of various methods, researchers have estimated that about 50 percent of the net anthropogenic pulse would be absorbed in the first 50 years, and about 70 percent in the first 100 years. Absorption by sinks slows dramatically after that, with an additional 10 percent or so being removed after 300 years and the remaining 20 percent lasting tens if not hundreds of thousands of years before being removed."
